FRENCH National Railways (SNCF) has awarded a Euros 350 million contract to Corus Rail to supply rails for four years initially, with an option to extend the contract by another two years.
As part of the deal, Corus Rail will invest Euros 35 million to modernise its rail producing plant in Hayange, France, to enable production of 108m-long rails. "Being able to produce 108m-long rails puts us in a better position to supply the growing demand for high-speed lines," says Mr Gérard Glas, director general of Corus Rail, France. "By 2011, we will be among just a handful of producers with this capability."
