DB REGIO has signed a Euros 600million, nine-year framework contract with Bombardier for the supply of 200 multi-engine Traxx locomotives for passenger operations. The initial contract for 20 locomotives is worth Euros 62million.

dbregiotraxx.jpgThe latest version of the Traxx family uses four heavy-duty diesel engines instead of the conventional single large diesel and can be operated using one to four of the engines as required. In addition to being compliant with EU Stage IIIB emissions standards, Bombardier says this concept reduces fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and life-cycle costs.

The first locomotives will be delivered in mid-2013, with final assembly to take place in Kassel, Germany. The carbodies will be manufactured in Wroclaw, Poland and bogies produced at Bombardier’s factory in Siegen, Germany. Propulsion and control equipment will be supplied by the company’s plants in Mannheim and Hennigsdorf, Germany.
