India approves $US 1.56bn rail projects

INDIA's government has approved investment of Rs 107 billion ($US 1.56bn) in railway projects.

Amongst the schemes approved are doubling of the 190km Hubli - Chickajur, 60km Ramna - Singrauli and 261km Katni - Singrauli railways. A third track will be added on the 132km between Wardha and Ballarshah and on the 165km Anuppur - Katni route, while doubling of the Rampur - Dumra - Tal-Rajendrapul sector in Bihar, which includes the construction of an additional bridge, will also take place.

All six projects are due to be completed within five years.
