PHILIPPE Mellier has stepped down from his role as president of Alstom Transport after eight years. Mellier, 55, will join diamond company De Beers as CEO, and will begin his new role on July 1.

Patrick Kron, chairman and CEO of Alstom, paid tribute to Mellier's achievements at Alstom since he joined in May 2003.
"Philippe Mellier has developed Alstom Transport's positions in a number of markets and product lines," Kron says. "He has notably built a major partnership in Russia [which is] very promising for the future of Alstom Transport."
Kron will act as president of Alstom Transport until a replacement is announced.
