The 25km line will have 22 stations and will beinteroperable with both the Luas light rail network and Metro North,
which will allow services to run through to the Airport and Swords, as
well as Dublin City Centre. The line will have capacity for 10,000
passengers per hour per direction with a minimum headway of four
minutes at peak times.
If granted, the Railway Order will allow the RPA to proceed with construction and operation of the line.
Meanwhile, the latest addition to Dublin's Luas light rail network was
officially opened on October 16. The 7.5km extension of the Green Line
from Sandyford to Brides Glen has nine stops and is expected to
increase Luas ridership by more than 2 million per year.
Construction began in 2007 and the RPA says the line was completed onschedule and under budget, with a final cost of less than Euros 300
million.
