RZD freight volumes rise 11.3% in seven months

FREIGHT traffic in Russia has risen consistently in the first seven months of 2010 according to the latest figures from Russian Railways (RZD), which show volumes reached 688.1 million tonnes between January and July, an 11.3% increase over the same period last year.
Coal achieved 10.2% growth, rising to 166 million tonnes, while oil and petroleum volumes recovered 10% to 58.2 million tonnes. The carriage of metallurgical ores rose 9.7% to 41.7 million tonnes, chemical and fertiliser traffic increased 21.3% to 26.5 million tonnes, and intermodal volumes were up 19.6% to 101 million tonnes.
