Trial running will be completed in November, and the trains will enterservice in December on the newly-upgraded Moscow - St Petersburg line,where they will be operate at speeds of up to 250km/h. This will allowRZD to shave an hour off the fastest journey times, with Spasancompleting the journey between the two cities in 3h 45min. The trainswill also be introduced on the Moscow - Nizhniy Novgorod services fromnext year.
Siemens will deliver eight Sapsan trains to RZD by next year, and has acontract to maintain them for 30 years. Four of the trains will beequipped to operate on both 25kV ac and 3kV dc electrification systems.
