The 13.7km north-south line will run from a junction with the Expo Line to join the Green Line near Los Angeles International Airport, serving the districts of Leimert Park, Hyde Park, and Inglewood.

Utility diversion work is now underway and major construction is expected to begin in the spring. Commercial services are due to start in 2019 and the line is expected to carry around 16,000 passengers per day.

The line is controversial because it will not directly serve Los Angeles International Airport, with the stations at Century and Aviation boulevards being sited around 3km from the terminals. Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) is currently discussing options with airport officials on how best to link the new line to the terminals, with a peoplemover being the likely option.
