The station will eventually be served by Orlando SunRail commuter rail, the first phase of which is currently under construction, and Florida East Coast Railway's (FEC) proposed All Aboard Florida inter-city services from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale and Miami. FEC and the airport reached an agreement last October on establishing rail services to the airport.

Scott has set aside $US 123m in his proposed budget this year, with more to follow next year, presuming he is re-elected. The proposed budget also must be passed by the state legislature, though Scott expressed optimism that the measure would be accepted.

All Aboard Florida would pay the airport $US 2.8m annually for rent, plus up to $US 1.50 for each train passenger travelling to the airport station from Orlando. FEC also would invest $US 50 million in a maintenance facility at the airport and pay more than $US 580,000 a year to lease the land for it.

Construction is expected to begin on All Aboard Florida sometime this year.
