The deal will allow Sound Transit to purchase electricity generated by wind turbines through PSE’s Green Direct Programme. Sound Transit says the agreement will help to reduce its exposure to future fluctuations in utility prices, potentially cut long-term energy costs, and stabilise 42% of its electricity production charges over the duration of the contract.

Under its 2015 Sustainability Plan and the Sound Transit 3 ballot measure approved by voters in the region last year, the agency committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, extending the use of renewable energy, and making all facilities and electricity carbon-neutral by 2030.
