The extension from Lougheed Town Centre to Lafarge Lake Douglas serves seven new stations in Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam, including two interchanges with West Coast Express commuter rail services, and is forecast to carry 70,000 passengers per day by 2021.

Construction began in 2013 and the extension was built by the SNC-Lavalin-led EGRT consortium, which included Graham Building Services, International Bridge Technologies and Jacobs Associates Canada.

According to the provincial government, the project was completed $C 70-80m ($US 53-60m) below its budget of $C 1.43bn. Funding for the project came from the Canadian government ($C 424m), the government of British Columbia ($C 586m), and Vancouver transport authority TransLink ($C 400m), with the remaining $C 21m coming from other sources.

The completion of the Evergreen extension expands Vancouver’s driverless metro network to 85km.
