VMS awarded Alstom a €150m contract in March 2014 to supply 13 three-car and 16 five-car EMUs with an option for up to 23 additional trains. The remaining 13 trains, comprising two three-car and eleven five-car trains, will be delivered by May 27 in readiness for the start of the EMS concession on June 12.

The 14-year EMS concession was awarded to Transdev Central Germany last June and covers the operation of around 5.8 million train-km per year on the Dresden - Chemnitz - Hof/Zwickau, and Chemnitz - Elsterwerda lines.
