The four-car trains will seat 396 passengers, 84 of them in business class, and the first two trains will be delivered next month for use between Baku and Korogulu during the European Games, which Baku will host this summer. The remaining trains will be delivered by January and all five sets will be used on the 43km Baku - Sumgayit line, which is currently being upgraded.

Gurbanov says that the trains are being funded through the government's state programme for the modernisation of the railway network.

Last year Stadler formed a joint venture with Azerbaijan's International Railway Distribution as part of its strategy to increase sales in the region. Stadler already has a contract to supply 30 long-distance coaches to ADY.
