STATE Railway of Thailand (SRT) has invited bids for a Baht 4.4bn ($US 131m) tender to supply a fleet of new trains for the airport rail link between Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi Airport.

SRT requires seven four-car EMUs for operation on the standard-gauge line which is electrified at 25kV ac. Closing date for bids is July 29 and SRT expects to announce the winner of the contract on September 8.

The 29km line opened in August 2010, and is currently operated by fleet of EMUs supplied by Siemens which provide two types of service: an airport express and a commuter service.
