The bulk of equipment will be installed in trains being built for Chengdu Metro where 600 cars are on order for the 37km Line 6 which is currently under construction. The remaining equipment is for 78 cars being built for the new Line 4 in Chongqing.

The 50:50 joint venture, which was set up in 2003, will be responsible for engineering, testing and commissioning of the equipment as well as the initial provision of spare parts.

Bombardier will supply its Mitrac propulsion equipment which will be manufactured at its plants in Västerås, Sweden, and Changzhou, China. Bombardier’s share of the total order is worth $US 7m.
