The contract is valued at approximately Yuan 1.95bn ($US 284m). Bombardier owns 50% of the shares in BST but the joint venture is controlled by CRRC Sifang.

The CRH1 A-A trains have an operational speed of 250km/h, and feature an aluminium body shell designed to reduce weight and track wear. Bombardier says the train reaches industry standards for sustainability and passenger comfort, and is equipped with its Mitrac traction system, supplied by Chinese joint venture Bombardier CPC Propulsion System.

The trains will enter service with the Chengdu and Kunming Railway Bureau and also support the development of western China’s new “Diamond Economic Circle” which comprises the cities of Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi’an, Guiyang and Kunming.

The trains will begin to be delivered from July 2017 and be built at BST's plant in Qingdao.
