The agreement was signed in Montreal on September 23 by CRRC’s president Mr Xi Guohua and Mr Alain Bellemare, president and CEO of Bombardier, during a state visit to Canada by China’s premier Mr Li Keqiang.

Bombardier Transportation already has a strong presence in China with six joint ventures and seven wholly foreign-owned companies. Three of the six joint ventures are with CRRC subsidiaries in China. Bombardier Sifang Transportation, a 50:50 joint venture of Bombardier and CSR Sifang Locomotive and Rolling Stock, has produced more than 3000 high-speed trains for operation in China. CBRC in Changchun, which is a 50:50 joint venture with the former CNR, has manufactured in excess of 2000 metro trains for the Chinese market.

“We have been working closely with CRRC since 1998 and are very pleased to have reached this latest milestone in our relationship in order to provide Chinese and global customers a more competitive and broader range of rail transportation solutions,” Bellemare says.
