LONDON Underground (LU), Britain, has awarded a contract for 71 engineering wagons to Chinese rolling stock manufacturer CRRC Corporation.

The wagons, which will enter service in 2019, will be used to carry track and equipment for LU’s maintenance programmes.

This is CRRC’s first British rolling stock contract, and the company hopes that it will pave the way for further opportunities across the country.

“The new wagons will provide a major boost to our track renewal and maintenance programmes,” says LU project manager, Mr Ash Nanu. “For the first time, wagons will be designed specifically for our use and the environment within which we have to operate.”
