Alstom will supply 28 Coradia Continental three-car sets (pictured) for the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn in a Euros 140 million deal. The 160km/h trains, which will accommodate up to 343 passengers and seat 170, will enter service on lines S5 (Dortmund - Hagen) and S8 (Hagen - Düsseldorf - Mönchengladbach) in 2014. The trains will be assembled at Alstom's Salzgitter plant, which has already built 141 Coradia Continental emus for various German regional operators.

Meanwhile Stadler Pankow has secured a Euros 75m contract to supply 14 emus for Münster - Essen - Mönchengladbach Regional Express services.
The trains are the first to be ordered under a framework deal for up to 400 emus signed last year with Alstom, CAF, and Stadler.
