This latest order follows the purchase of 87 trains for the Stuttgart region, production of which is already underway.

These trains will be operated on the S-Bahn network in the Frankfurt area after DB Regio secured the concession for the Rhine-Main network from Rhine-Main Transport Authority (RMV) following a Europe-wide tender in November 2011.

The new 140km/h trains will enter service in December 2014 on lines S1, S7, S8 and S9, and will cover 7.2 million train-km per year.

Alstom is responsible for the manufacture of bogies, and the car bodyshell construction for all 90 of the emus as well as the complete interior work for 33 trains. Its share of the contract is worth e135m.
