The contract is valued at €150m and covers the supply of the three-car sets together with spare parts. The trains will enter service between 2015 and 2020 and will be capable of accommodating up to 400 passengers. Suppliers are expected to deliver a train with an exterior design similar to that of EuskoTren's existing UT900 series (pictured), which was supplied by CAF.

The initial batch of 12 units will be allocated to metro Line 3, which will link Matiko station in the city centre with the district of Extebarri. The 5.9km line is due to open in 2016 and will be the first section of the metro network to be operated by EuskoTren.

The remaining 16 units will be used to replace some of EuskoTren's oldest units, which date from the mid-1980s.
