First introduced in 2000, the fleet of 111 three-car class ET/X31K trains is used on Öresundståg services from Helsingør and Copenhagen to Malmö, Lund, Gothenburg, Kalmar and Karlskrona.

Refurbishment includes replacement of upholstery, floor coverings and toilet compartments, with new luggage racks, a redesigned area for passengers with wheelchairs, and a repainting with a new exterior livery, which clearly identifies the low-floor section of the train.

Each seat now has a power point and plastic floor coverings have been replaced with carpet. First class features new larger tables to accommodate laptops.

Öresundståg says it plans to refurbish 22 trains a year and the programme will be completed within five years.

In the coming days the first refurbished train will go on public display at Malmö, Varberg and Växjo before entering passenger service on March 15.
