Stadler is supplying 58 Flirt UK sets in regional (class 755) and (class 745) inter-city variants under a £600m contract awarded in October 2016. The order comprises 10 12-car EMUs for London - Ipswich - Norwich services; 10 12-car EMUs for Stansted Express airport services; 24 four-car bi-mode (diesel and electric) trains for regional services; and 14 three-car bi-mode trains for regional services.

The fleet is being financed by Rock Rail East Anglia, a joint venture between Rock Rail, Aberdeen Standard Investments, and GLIL Infrastructure.

The first class 755 will arrive in Britain in the autumn, with the fleet due to enter commercial service in spring 2019.

Under the contract for the new East Anglia franchise, which was awarded by the Department for Transport in August 2016, Greater Anglia is replacing its entire legacy fleet with 1073 new vehicles, which will expand the fleet by 10% by 2021.

Bombardier recently began assembling the first of 665 Aventra EMU vehicles for Greater Anglia at its Derby plant.
