HUNGARY's Györ-Sopron-Ebenfurth Railway (GySEV) has awarded Siemens a €30.7m contract to supply five Desiro ML emus for regional services between Hungary and Austria.

The dual voltage (15kV ac and 25kV ac) emus will be similar to the fleet of 100 Desiro ML sets ordered last year by Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) for regional services.

The GySEV trains will be assembled at Siemens Krefeld plant in Germany and are due to be delivered in April and May 2016, following the delivery of the first 20 sets for ÖBB. The trains will be capable of operating in multiple with the ÖBB units and will be used on the Deutschkreutz – Sopron – Ebenfurth – Vienna and Fertöszentmiklos – Neusiedl-am-See – Vienna routes.

Services on these lines are jointly operated by the two companies, which is why GySEV has opted to exercise an option from the ÖBB contract for Siemens trains.
