HRE is building 122 IEPs under a £5.7bn finance-supply-maintain contract with Agility Trains, a consortium of Hitachi Rail Europe (70%), John Laing Investments (24%), and MetLife Private Capital Investors (6%). Two types of train, a bi-mode and an EMU, comprising 57 trains for operation by Great Western Railway (GWR) and 65 for Virgin Trains East Coast are under construction.

HRE also has orders for five bi-mode trains for Hull Trains worth £60m, and 19 bi-mode trains for TransPennine Express. In addition, GWR has ordered 36 bi-mode trains for London - Plymouth - Penzance services which HRE is building at its plant in Pistoia, Italy.

HRE has a further contract to supply 46 three-car and 24 four-car AT200 class 385 EMUs for operation by Abellio ScotRail. The company is building the first seven trains in Japan, and the remainder will be assembled at Newton Aycliffe. For more information on the IEP project and HRE orders, subscribe to IRJ Pro.
