The trains will be introduced between the end of 2019 and 2021 on Transilien Line N from Paris Montparnasse to Mantes-la-Jolie, Dreux, and Rambouillet, superseding Z8800 EMUs and VB2N push-pull double-deck trains. The 110m-long eight-car sets may also be used on Line D between RER between Juvisy and Corbeil-Malesherbes.

An initial batch of 42 trains was ordered for Line R in December 2014 at a cost of €397m. The first of these trains was unveiled at Bombardier’s Crepin plant in February and the fleet will enter service from January 2018.

The trains are part of a framework contract for up to 860 Regio 2N EMUs, which was awarded by SNCF on behalf of the French regions in 2010. So far a total of 341 sets have been ordered by 10 regions.
