Macedonian Railways orders Chinese trains

FOLLOWING a competitive tender, Macedonian Railways (MZ) signed a €25m contract with representatives of CSR Zhuzhou, China, in the Macedonian capital Skopje on June 24 for six regional trains.

The order comprises four DMUs and two 25kV 50Hz ac EMUs. The low-floor articulated trains will accommodate up to 1200 passengers.

Deliveries will begin in July 2015 and the final set is due to arrive in Macedonia in early 2016.

The order is being financed with the aid of a €988,000 loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
