METRO Trains Melbourne (MTM) has awarded Nomad Digital a contract to install remote condition monitoring (RCM) systems on four Alstom X'Trapolis EMUs in a proof of concept which could lead a full fleet rollout of the technology.

The proof-of-concept will be designed and deployed by Nomad Tech, a joint venture between Nomad Digital and EMEF, Portugal, and is intended to provide a basis for the introduction of preventative and intelligence-driven maintenance practices.

Nomad's RCM solution is combined with an adaptable communications platform which will enable live CCTV, passenger information systems and passenger entertainment functions to be supported in the future.

If successful, RCM could be rolled out across MTM's entire fleet of more than 1000 EMU cars.
