BOMBARDIER confirmed on May 6 that Ile-de-France Transport Authority (Stif) and French National Railways (SNCF) subsidiary SNCF Mobility have placed a €127m order for 19 additional class Z 50000 Francilien EMUs for suburban services in the Paris area.

The single-deck trains will be delivered in 2017 and will replace 40-year-old class Z6400 EMUs on suburban Line L from Pairs Saint-Lazare to Versailles-Rive-Droit, which carries around 312,000 passengers per day.

The trains will be entirely financed by Stif and the purchase was approved by the authority's board of directors in February.

SNCF signed a framework contract for up to 372 Francillien sets in 2006, with an initial order for 172 trains. The first option for 22 trains was exercised last year and this second option for 19 sets will take the total number of Francilien EMUs in service or on order to 213.
