MTR Corporation, Hong Kong, has awarded Mechan, Britain, two contracts to supply lifting jacks, bogie turntables and a bespoke bogie drop.

Mechan has been working with a local agent, Associate Engineers, to supply 24 20-tonne jacks for Wong Chuk Hang depot on the South Island and four turntables to transfer bogies between maintenance roads.

The jacks, which operate in two sets of 12, are controlled by the Megalink system, allowing a synchronised lift to be managed by one operator, and a new emergency stop safety circuit was designed and fitted to comply with Hong Kong’s electrical regulations.

A bogie drop for the Shek Kong running maintenance shed is under construction and will incorporate a number of new design elements to meet MTR’s requests for higher levels of automation.
