NJ Transit has issued a call for tender for the supply of 113 double-deck EMU cars with a closing date for bids of February 15 2018. NJ Transit also plans to invite bids early in 2018 for 17 dual-mode locomotives.

The Multi-level III passenger cars will comprise 58 powered vehicles and 55 trailer coaches, and will replace 40-year-old Arrow III EMUs.

The locomotives are needed to enable NJ Transit to retire its fleet of GP-40P diesel locomotives which date from 1968 and are becoming increasingly unreliable. NJ Transit already has 35 dual-mode ALP-46 locomotives supplied by Bombardier.
