The trains, which are formed into four and six-car sets, have been heavily modified for their new role, and a completely new interior offers a much higher level of comfort. Benches in second class have been replaced with individual seats, and first class features a 2+1 layout with leather seating. Power points are provided for all seats and wireless internet is available throughout the train. All windows have been replaced and the train has been equipped with air conditioning. Passengers with disabilities will be able to access at least one toilet on each train. Sustainability and energy saving are important aspects of the refurbishment programme. All materials from the train will be recycled. New onboard equipment such as LED lighting has been selected to reduce energy consumption by around 9%.
