POMERANIAN Metropolitan Railway (PKM) has awarded Pesa Bydgoszcz a €27.5m contract to supply three two-car and seven three-car DMUs for the 17km line linking Gdansk and Gdynia with Lech Walesa Airport, which is due to open next year.

All 10 trains are due to be delivered to PKM by next May.

PKM says the trains will operate a 15-minute interval service, with a journey time of 18 minutes between Gdansk Wrzeszcz and the airport station at Port Lotniczy. The line is expected to carry around 12.5 million passengers per year.
