The regions of Podkarpackie, Świętokrzyskie, Lesser Poland, and Silesia, formed the South Purchasing Group (PGZ) to maximise their purchasing power for the contract, which will support the replacement of class EN57 emus built in the 1970s.
The trains will be assembled at Newag's Nowy Sacz plant in Lesser Poland. The order brings the total number of Impuls sets sold to 36, all of them to Polish operators. Since the launch of the Impuls range in 2011, the emus have been ordered in two, three, four and six-car formations.
The first 10 trains will be delivered from June 2014, and the remaining nine will be delivered by March 2015. Each three-car articulated set will have 150 seats, air-conditioning, and accessible toilets.
