SWISS Federal Railways (SBB) has placed an order worth over SFr 50m ($US 56.9m) for 485 new freight wagons from Žos Trnava, Slovakia.

The order comprises 70 twin-axle and 140 four-axle hopper wagons with gravity discharge, 50 four-axle tippers with high-side walls, 25 four-axle tippers with low-side walls, 50 four-axle wagons for sleepers and 150 twin-axle freight wagons. Delivery is due to start in May 2015 with the final units arriving by the end of 2016.

The new units will be used to support increasing maintenance and construction work taking place on the Swiss network, and will replace existing wagons of the same type, which are on average 40-years-old.
