The order, which comprises 10 four-car, two three-car and one two-car train is the first for Pesa’s new Elf 2 family of EMUs.

Pesa submitted an offer of Zlotys 206m ($US 41.1m), the lowest-priced bid in a tender which allocated 92% of the assessment score to cost. Stadler submitted an offer of Zlotys 317m, while Newag bid Zlotys 242m for the contract, which includes a 10-year warranty.

The trains will be assembled at Pesa’s plant in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and deliveries are due to take place between mid-2017 and mid-2018.

KS carried 15.9 million passengers in 2015 and its existing fleet comprises 59 EMUs and three DMUs.
