The option is part of a framework contract dating back to 2010 for up to 860 trains, which SNCF signed on behalf of the French regions.

The new trains will be deployed on the Ile-de-France Transilien suburban network centred on Paris. These additional trains will expand the Regio 2N Transilien fleet to 134 trains operating on lines R, N and D, and the first trains were commissioned on Line R in December 2017.

So far, 10 French regions have ordered a total of 310 Regio 2N trains of which 40 are for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 26 for Brittany, 14 for Centre-Val de Loire, 25 for Hauts-de-France, 134 for Ile-de-France, 24 for Nouvelle Aquitaine, 18 for Occitanie, 13 for Pays-de-la-Loire, and 16 for Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. In addition, Bombardier has supplied 32 Omneo Premium inter-city trains for Centre-Val de Loire and another 40 trains for Normandy.
