STADLER has handed over the first five-car Flirt EMU for Swedish open-access inter-city operator MTR Express, less than a year after receiving the order for six trains.

MTR Express awarded Stadler a SFr 85m ($US 90m) contract last November for the 200km/h 15kV ac trains, which will enter service next March between Stockholm and Gothenburg. MTR Express will operate 90 services per week with a journey time of 3h 10min on the 455km route.

Stadler says it expects to deliver the final train next August.
