The Dosto ER1 trains will be leased by the region and are due to be introduced on Uppsala - Skutskär - Gälve East Coast Line services from the end of 2019, providing additional capacity on a route which currently suffers from overcrowding.

Each four-car set will seat 357 passengers, compared with 170 on the Bombardier X52 Regina EMUs currently used on these services.

Following the delivery of the Stadler trains some of the Regina sets will be retained by Upptåget to replace leased rolling stock on the Uppsala - Sala line.

Transitio is owned by 20 county and regional councils and public transport authorities in Sweden. The company is responsible for procuring, financing and managing rolling stock for its owners.

In 2015 Transitio awarded Stadler a contract to supply 33 double-deck EMUs for Mälab, a joint venture of local transport authorities in the counties of Örebro, Stockholm, Sörmland and Västmanland. The first of these trains will enter service in 2019.
