"The new trains will be used for regional and commuter services, supporting those public service contracts that foresee a provision for new rolling stock," Mrs Barbara Morgante, Trenitalia's CEO, told IRJ.

The first order within the framework agreement is for trains to be used in Emilia Romagna, as stipulated in the tender awarded last year to Trenitalia and Emilia Romagna Passenger Transport (TPER).

"From 2009 to the present date, we have purchased approximately 360 new trains, 200 of which will have been delivered by 2016," Morgante says.
