ZSSK orders 21 DMUs from ŽOS Vrútky Quintus Vosman

SLOVAKIA’s national passenger operator ZSSK has awarded ŽOS Vrútky, Slovakia a contract worth around €77m to supply 21 additional class 861 DMUs to replace ageing locomotive-hauled trains in the Zvolen area.

The three-car trains will be delivered in 2018 and will be used on services from Zvolen to Banská Bystrica and Fil’akovo.

The order comprises seven three-car trains, each seating 160 passengers, and 14 two-car sets, which seat 110.

The order is being funded with the aid of a grant from the European Union.

ZSSK already operates 32 class 861 sets, which were delivered in two batches between 2011 and 2015.
