The lines involved will link Valladolid, with Venta de Baños and Leon, and Venta de Baños with Burgos. Completion of these projects will accelerate high-speed services between Madrid, Gijon, Bilbao and San Sebastián.

Bombardier, whose share of the contract is worth €144m, will install its Interflo 450 Level 2 system on the Venta de Baños - Burgos section. The system will comprise an Ebi Com radio block centre, Ebi Link balises, Ebi Lock 950 computer-based interlocking, and train detection systems.

Bombardier will work with Nokia Networks to deliver GSM-R solution for the projects. Nokia will supply its Flexi Base Stations, fibre optic repeaters, and Transcoder/Sub-Multiplexer (TCSM) along with its NetAct network management system. The company is also providing network operations, network design, project execution, network implementation, and maintenance services.

Bombardier will install its system within 24 months, and will provide a two-year warranty plus maintenance for 20 years.

In addition, Adif has selected Nokia directly to deliver GSM-R on the 50km La Robla - Pola de Lena high-speed line, which will eventually form part of the León - Asturias high-speed line, with delivery set for March 2015. Adif awarded Siemens Rail Automation and Thales a €54m contract to equip the line with Asfa ATP system, ERTMS and associated signalling and telecommunications equipment in April.
