SPAIN's Ministry of Public Works (Fomento) has approved €280m of funding to equip the under-construction Grenada – Antequera high-speed line, enabling infrastructure manager Adif to invite tenders.

The largest tender, with a budget of €242.6m, will be for signalling and telecommunications. This will comprise interlockings, train safety and detection systems, traffic control, and GSM-R telecommunications.

The second tender worth around €37.3m will cover electrification of 114.5km at 25kV ac and associated equipment. Adif plans to use its C-350 design of catenary on this line. Adif has already invited bids for two sub-stations and auto-transformers at an estimated cost of €14m.
