NORWAY’s ERTMS programme reached an important milestone on March 14, when the board of infrastructure manager Bane Nor voted to award contracts to Siemens and Alstom for the rollout of ETCS Level 2 Baseline 3 across most of the 4114km national network by 2034.

Siemens has been selected for the NKr 5.5bn ($US 710m) trackside contract, while Alstom has been chosen to supply onboard equipment in a deal worth around NKr 2bn.

The onboard systems contract has been procured by Bane Nor on behalf of 14 train operators and covers the installation of ETCS equipment on around 400 vehicles.

Thales was recently selected for the contract to deliver a new national Traffic Management System (TMS), which will replace three legacy systems.
