TURKISH State Railways (TCDD) has awarded Alstom an e89m contract to supply its Atlas ETCS system on the 328km Eskisehir - Kutahya - Balikesir line.

Atlas is based on the ETCS Level 1 and 2 smartlock interlocking solution and Iconis, an integrated control centre. Alstom will supply level crossing systems, technical equipment buildings as well as power distribution and uninterrupted power supply systems. ERTMS/ETCS on-board equipment will also be installed on 27 TCDD locomotives.

The system will enable line speeds to increase to 160km/h as well as expansion of capacity when it enters service in November 2014.
