The Bhaupur - Khurja section of the Eastern DFC will have 10 freight stations located approximately 35-40km apart of which four will provide connections to existing Indian Railways infrastructure. The DFCs are designed for 1500m-long, 13,000-tonne trains, and 32.5-tonne axleloads, although the line's axleload will initially be limited to 25 tonnes. The trains will operate at a maximum speed of 100km/h.

Civil works are underway on the Bhaupur - Khurja section following the award of a Rs 33bn contract to Tata Projects India and Aldesa, Spain, in February 2013, and this section of the 1839km line is due to be completed in 2018.
