Mott MacDonald to oversee Belgian ETCS rollout Quintus Vosman

BELGIUM's Mobility and Transport Federal Public Services (FPS) has awarded Mott MacDonald a contract to independently review the €2bn national rollout of ETCS currently being implemented by infrastructure manager Infrabel.

The ETCS masterplan encompasses the rollout of limited supervision ETCS Level 1 and Level 2 across the entire mainline network by 2022.

During the initial phase of the project Mott MacDonald will be responsible for reviewing the masterplan and migration plan for both Infrabel and Belgian National Railways (SNCB), which is installing ETCS onboard equipment on its fleet of locomotives, multiple units, and driving trailers. In the second phase the consultancy will follow up audits and share findings with the Mobility and Transport FPS.

The work will also include recommending possible alternatives or improvements, carrying out cost-benefit analysis, and auditing programme management by Infrabel and SNCB.

In addition, Mott MacDonald will provide training to allow FPS staff to review and audit progress with the project.
