SHANGHAI Shentong Metro Group has awarded the Thales SEC Transport (TST) joint venture of Thales and Shanghai Electric a contract to equip the new Line 14 for driverless operation as a pilot project.

TST will install a communications-based train control (CBTC) automatic train control system which will have a fully-redundant system architecture to ensure that a signalling failure will have zero operational impact. The system will be integrated with a supervision system to provide what TST describes as a high-level of automated control.

Line 14 will run east-west from Fengbang to Jinsui Road. It will be 38.5km long with 31 underground stations and is scheduled to open in 2020.
