FORT Worth Transportation Authority (FWTA) has awarded a $US 97m signalling and communication services contract to Wabtec for the new Tex Rail commuter line in Texas.

The 43.5km double-track line is expected open in 2018 and Wabtec will provide signalling and communication services, including a control and command centre for the line.

The line will connect Fort Worth city centre with Grapevine and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport Terminal B, serving 10 stations.

Construction of the $US 996m line began in August 2016 and services will be operated by a fleet of eight Stadler DMUs.
