The MoU outlines an increase in bauxite freight volumes on the line from one million tonnes per year to five million tonnes, ahead of the mine’s planned start of operation in 2023. The agreement details the process of finalising the concept into an agreed plan of operation, which will conclude the key requirements for the project.

As part of the MoU, Camrail has agreed to assist Canyon with the development of any proposed technical and logistical solutions, providing input into policy development, compliance and regulatory requirements and funding options. Camrail has also agreed to support Canyon in its dealings with government representatives and stakeholders.

The bauxite will be transported on the 800km Ngaoundere - Douala line/Canyon Resources

Canyon previously discussed the Minim Martap project with Camrail and its parent company Bolloré Africa Logistics as part of feasibility studies for the mine, and will begin face-to-face discussions in January to formalise commercial agreements regarding the project.

“The finalisation of the MoU with Camrail is an important step forward as it details a pathway and timeline to complete commercial rail access and operational agreements for the Minim Martap Project,” says Mr James Durrant, Canyon’s director of projects. “This is another key step in the development of the project as it is forms the basis for securing rail haulage for our bauxite.”
